Previous The Simulation Next

The computer simulation of the naturalistic environment, the Nitobe Memorial Garden at UBC, allows a wide latitude for manipulating the contextual relationships in this research project. Without getting too technical, the rest of this web site will demonstrate, using actual images from the simulator, how this is accomplished. The images that follow are all taken from the Demo version of the simulation, which only shows the front gate area of the garden. Also, all images are downsized here to save disk space and load times, they appear larger in the actual simulation.

This is the view as one approaches the Nitobe Memorial Garden. From this vantage point, participants are able to pan the view left and right before proceeding forward. Note the arrow buttons. Participants can also use the arrow keys on the computer keyboard. Note that these particular images are not interactive. Garden Approach
This is the view from closer to the gate into the Garden. This is the one interactive location in the Demo version of the simulation. When participants click the red "I" arrow, they zero in on close-ups of particular locations in this general area. What they do there depends on the experimental condition. . . . Gate View
