David Eichhorn's Select Writing Portfolio

Thank you for taking time to peruse my portfolio
Though much of my 22 years in marketing, working closely with package designers and branding professionals, has been spent proofreading and copy editing, this portfolio is a partial representation of the copywriting work I have done. Confidentiality is a large issue in this business, so I cannot publicly display what I have written recently, but this is a fair sample of my diverse talents.

This may not be a particularly dazzling website, but please bear in mind that I designed and coded it entirely from scratch. No Dreamweaver, no WordPress, just me and my word processor. I know how to use those tools, I just like to demonstrate my HTML abilities.

Enjoy!

HP Package Design Article
This is an article I wrote on behalf of Brand Engine for Package Design Magazine. It describes the then-new (since redesigned) package design for all Hewlett Packard products worldwide, highlighting how the package design makes it easier for consumers to find what they need. I was given an outline and conducted interviews with the design team to arrive at this final article.
NYKO Gaming Accessories Packaging Guidelines
Guidelines documents are critical tools for branding and marketing firms, as well as in-house departments, particularly when it comes to collaboration with external contributors. When brand strategists and designers helped NYKO define a brand that could stand its own alongside the big gaming console brands, my team and I helped ensure the proper application of the design to all future packages and collateral materials by writing these guidelines.
Shelf Impact Article
This is a near-final draft of an article that appeared in Shelf Impact! online packaging magazine. Team-written with my boss at the time, William Burke. It describes the way a package can become part of a "memorable brand experience" that contributes to a brand's equity. I was provided a rough outline and a few key comments and quotes and wrote from there.
Chiquita Crushie Package Design Article
Written on behalf of Brand Engine for Package Design magazine, this article describes the branding and package design for a new Chiquita beverage product. I was given the "Original Outline" that appears first, then conducted some brief interviews with the design team, and after a few drafts, arrived at this near-final version.
The Melt Location Proposal
I was in charge of personalizing this proposal for The Melt's first San Francisco location. Great care was being taken to ensure the interior and exterior design elements reflected the brand image and made sense in the neighborhood where it was being established. This all needed to be reflected in my portions of the proposal, represented here.
Wildwood Organics Style Guide
This contains excerpts I wrote for the style guide created when the Wildwood brand was transformed into an international success.
Incase Naming Sample
From their current Website, I helped write much of this copy. Most notable, however, is the "Hip-side Power Pocket" name (in a double red box) that was entirely my idea.
Pleasanton Shutters & Shades Blogs
This file contains a few different blogs I wrote for a company in Pleasanton that sells and services window coverings.
Golden Statements Article
Golden Statements is the Magazine for the Golden State Bonsai Federation. I was asked to write this article showcasing the 2013 Fall Show of the Marin Bonsai Club, of which I used to be Vice President. No, sadly none of the beautiful trees in the article are mine.
eHookah User Guide Excerpt
There's not much I can say about this product at this time, except that it's called an eHookah, it's very popular in the U.K. but its launch in the U.S. is postponed indefinitely. This is a sample of the rewrite of their documentation, redacted for nondisclosure purposes.

I used to write the newsletter for the Marin Bonsai Club, so if you would like to see some of my more journalistic writing, contact me and I would love to send you more samples.
