Previous Introduction Next

This research project proceeded under the general premise that a person's attention to the environment is highly dependent not only upon the relationship between the person and the environment, but also the relationship between the person and the task at hand, as well as the relationship between the environment and the task.

Interaction

Depending on how these three typical situational components interact, a person might become more or less dependent upon their interrelations. For instance, one might be dependent upon physical cues when trying to remember how to navigate a newly experienced environment, but prior experience with navigating new environments can alleviate that dependence. I refer to this mutual interaction of situational elements as Contextual Integration.
